University of Aveiro

Rosa Maria Ferreira Pinho has a degree in Biology, and a Master's degree in Marine and Coastal Sciences from the University of Aveiro. She is currently enrolled in the Doctoral Program in History of Science and Scientific Communication at the University of Aveiro. She has been the Curator of the Herbarium at the University of Aveiro since 1993. Her areas of expertise have been Botany, Plant Ecology, Ethnobotany, Environmental Education and Awareness, and Science Dissemination and Communication. She has developed several activities in the area of ​​Environmental Education, involving schools and the general public. She is the author of several books, complete works and/or chapters, as well as scientific, technical, scientific-pedagogical and dissemination papers in some journals. She participated as responsible for the Flora and Vegetation component in numerous Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Monitoring, Management Plans for Protected Areas and in the Development of Nature Trails.

Beja Botanical Museum

Luís Manuel Mendonça de Carvalho is a biologist with an MSc. in Biochemistry and Physiology of Plants (Lisbon University) and a PhD in Systematics and Morphology (Coimbra University), with a thesis on Ethnobotany. He is a former visiting Scholar at Harvard University and is now a Coordinator Professor at Beja Polytechnic University (Portugal). He is the founder and Director of the Beja Botanical Museum and a researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History (Lisbon Nova University) and the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (Evora University). He holds the UNESCO Chair in Ethnobotany and the Safeguard of Plant-Based Heritage, received the Ford Motor Company Award and represented Portugal in the Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation (UNESCO). He writes and lectures on the history of botany, especially on economic botany and ethnobotany
